Denizens of the South Bay will be fortunate to hear the
accomplishments of one of our own local flute players, Kris Palmer,
before she journeys to New York to make her debut at Carnegie
Hall.
Dr. Palmer is an emerging talent who achieved a second place
finish in the 1997 National Flute Association Young Artist
Competition. Her prowess has earned her guest soloist work with
several American ensembles as well as two appearances with the
Opera Festival Di Roma, where the journal Il Nuovo Pontino
declared her "a confirmed concert artist of international stature."
Palmer's concert tonight at Santa Clara University (at 7:30 p.m. in
the Recital Hall) will mirror that of her upcoming Carnegie Hall
debut. The program, entitled The World of the Flute: French
Baroque to Latin Jazz, includes Lowell Liebermann's 1987 Sonata
(a favorite of the flute repertoire), along with Exotic Impressions by
Siegfried Karg-Elert.
San Franciscans need not worry about missing out on Palmer's
artistry. She will give one more concert before Carnegie Hall, on
Saturday, February 24, at 8:00 p.m. at the Community Music
Center, 544 Capp Street, San Francisco.
